Q1. What are the Vālant EMR’s hardware specifications and software requirements?

HARDWARE SPECIFICATIONS:

ALL USERS: Broadband (High-Speed) Internet connection: 1.5 Mbps or faster. A minimum throughput (actual upload and download speed) of 300 kbps PER USER is required.
NOTE: Actual throughput is often much lower than the advertised connection speed.

PC USERS: X86 or x64 (64-bit mode support for IE v9 only) 1.6 gigahertz (GHz) processor or higher with a minimum of 1GB of RAM.

MAC (INTEL-BASED) USERS: Intel Core Duo 1.83 gigahertz (GHz) or higher.

iPAD (MOBILE NOTES ONLY) USERS: To fully utilize the voice recognition capabilities of Vālant Mobile Notes, we recommend an iPad 3 or newer.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:

The Vālant Psychiatric Suite uses the latest technology to ensure security and reliability. This includes Secure Socket Layer (SSL) 3.0 protocol with 128 bit encryption for secure communications and JavaScript for a responsive interactive experience. We recommend that you always use the most up-to-date browser for the highest level of security.

PC USERS: Windows PCs running Windows XP Professional SP3 or higher.  Windows Vista Business SP2 or higher. Windows Vista Enterprise SP2 or higher. Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 or higher. Windows7 Professional SP1 or higher. Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 or higher. Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 or higher Internet Explorer v8.x or higher. 64-bit mode requires IE v9.x or higher Mozilla Firefox v6.x or higher Google Chrome is not a supported web browser.

Adobe Reader v9.x or higher.

Microsoft Silverlight 5 or higher.

Microsoft Word 2007 or higher. Microsoft Word Starter 2007 does not support macros, therefore it is not supported.

MAC USERS: Macintosh 10.5.7 (Intel-based) or higher.

Mozilla Firefox 6 or higher running in 32-bit. Silverlight will not run on Firefox in 64-bit on a Mac, which is the default setting.

Apple Safari is not a supported web browser.

Q7. Once I sign up, what is the process?

Soon after signing up, you will receive a welcome email from your personal account manager . The email will provide details for a web-based training session, during which you will learn the basic functions of the Vālant system.

Q8. Will my patient data be secure?

Q10. What happens if I retire or change jobs and want to terminate my service?

You would have a choice. We can make all data available to you in the digital format that you would find most useful (i.e. CD-ROM, removable media). Alternatively, for a small fee we can keep and manage your medical records, practice documents and financial data for as long as you would like.
